EHUD ASHERIE - ORGANIC

After three years of silence, Israeli pianist and organist Ehud Asheri two albums released in 2010 : the first was "Modern Life" during the first months of last year, and already running out in 2010 launched the "Organic."
If in "Modern Life" Asheri gave vent to his side piano, in "Organic" let out your vein groove to get behind his Hammond B-3. Both discs share one common feature: the directory is divided almost equally between jazz standars and own songs.
The album starts with "Tonight" from Leonard Bernstein and ends with "Blues for Fats" in homanaje Fats Weller, another keyboardist who was equally comfortable playing the piano to the organ. In the middle are issues Sonny Rollins, Johnny Green and Antonio Carlos Jobim. In terms of their own songs including "Pra Jelena Valse," possibly the most loving theme of the album, "Apostrophe", one of the more funky pieces, the nostalgic "It's possible" and the aforementioned "Blues for Fats."
Among his companions should be noted guitarist Peter Bernstein performing a wonderful job, showing that in the land of soul and groove jazz moves like a breathtaking ease and is able to create melodic lines of great beauty and intensity. In castiza, if Asheri if it neglects a bit Bernstein would have eaten the toast.
This fourth album for signing Ehud Asheri positrons is a disc with very accessible music and that will happen and some time to those who enjoy the unmistakable sound of Hammond B-3 jazz and soul.

FLORIAN ROSS - MECHANISM

Florian Ross is a young German-born piano value in 1972 and has had people as masters of the height of John Taylor, Joachim Ullrich, Don Friedman and Jim McNeely.
We can say that the recordings of Ross, who already in 1998 released his first album, look both multifaceted jazz tradition as the extraordinary use of contemporary material . In all formations, from trio to quintet and string orchestra for group metals, Ross manages to reconcile these two seemingly different musical forms. Improvisation and composition.
His music invites inspiration, the architecture of his compositions are sometimes bold, but always fresh. Intellect and feeling, not mutually exclusive, head listening to the stomach, and vice versa. The music radiates balance.
Ross has worked with musicians of the importance of Vince Mendoza, Bob Brookmeyer, Dave Liebman, Don Friedman, George Duke, John Scofield, Kenny Wheeler, Joe Lovano and John Hollenbeck. He has given concerts throughout Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
After a decade, several major awards and several recordings on the market now is the time of the solo to Ross, the litmus test for a pianist that price.
Florian Ross is strengthened by this new recording as a compositional force in contemporary European jazz. Seventeen songs, almost all own borders complete this recording classical music with apparent complicity in the piece harmonically rich and very melodic.
only have room for two versions, a successful "Sometime ago" Sergio Mihanovich and a "Moments Notice" from Coltrane into the world of the ballad.
The presence of loops in some of the issues offer new sensations Ross style are welcome, in the case of songs like "Mechanism" or "Catflap" Other topics to Jarrett but remind minimalist as the disarming "Blade Runner"
Florian Ross has managed a CD filled with beautiful dark melodies watermarks, no dissonance and almost no room for silence forming a disc that will appeal to those not seeking fanfare ni grandes exigencias a la hora de escuchar un relajado jazz emparentado con el mundo de la clásica.

NOAH PREMINGER - BEFORE THE RAIN

New York City, Noah Preminger has kissed the holy first arriving at the scene of his city, was nominated by the Jazz Journalists Association with its first recording, "Dry Bridge Road", the prize for best artist revelation of 2009. Ben Ratliff, The New York Times, did not spare compliments about of this recording: "More than just a promising starting point, this is a sign of integrity, here is a musician who feels and you can trust" ... "Unusually elegant ... played with care and precision. " Noe and his group can say that include the concepts influenced by genres ranging from classic to contemporary jazz, from hard rock to ambient music . This distinguishes him from other musicians.
Noah has had the opportunity to perform and work with musicians of the caliber of Dave Liebman, Fred Hersch, John McNeil, Steve Davis, Nat Reeves, Dave Douglas, Dave Holland, John and Bucky Pizzarelli, Billy Hart, Roscoe Mitchell, George Cables, Cecil McBee, Bob Moses and others besides has toured the world.
In this second CD in your name Preminger has dispensed with the trumpet and guitar accompanying him on his first cd and has put all the eggs in one basket as 'front man' with his sax , although no accompanying band is maimed, in fact has the extraordinary musicianship of pianist Frank Kimbrough, the bassist John Hebert and the drummer Matt Wilson always interesting.
first thing we can and we must say about this album, which is the debut of saxophonist for the Palmetto label, is that it a recording full of subtlety and elegance .
The album is a collection of nocturnal music From the initial reference to midnight classic jazz with a quiet "Where or When" by Rodgers and Hart to provide mobility item signed by Frank Kimbrough "Quickenin" this beautiful meditation or slow, melancholy saxophone and bass is "Before the Rain", a subject of Noah that leads us to think of Coltrane at times. It is music that creates a lush and patient, pastel colors accented with touches of color agile due to the strains of piano. There is still more hard to enjoy, "Abreaction" is another theme night itself and character that leaves the doors do another classic flavored midnight: "Until the real thing eat along" with a ballad pace, open and thoughtful. "K" is a little exercise that takes us into the most experimental yields. With "Toy Dance" by Ornette Coleman as the center and finished the little chaos to the calm of "November" Kimbrough returns us to the beautiful night "Jaime" signed by the Noah Preminger.
One disc for night creatures, a record of streetlights, sidewalks wet, clubs and almost impossible to find is what Noah Preminger has signed on his first recording for Palmetto I think it will report new bonus to his promising career.

Locking Instructions For An Eminent Suitcase

DOUG WEBB - MIDNIGHT

saxophonist Doug Webb leads a superb quartet in the "Midnight" that has all the aroma of the great and classic jazz records. This album conveys feelings of nightlife, jazz clubs of the half-light ...
saxophonist Doug Webb is a little known, but (almost) everyone has heard at some point because his sax is played when Lisa Simpson plays his instrument. Webb has more than thirty years on stage, and played with people like Bud Shank, Horace Silver, Freddie Hubbard, in the world of jazz and pop-rock musicians such as Rod Stewart, and all without have their work on television.
The eight tracks on the album, all standars, containing a beautiful touch of nostalgia that feels great. From its beginning with "Try a Little Tenderness" to end with "Emily" by Johnny Mendell, the "Midnight" is presented as 's a very solid, full of classic and very good work . One of the highlights of the album is the version of "Fly me to the moon ", with bossa nova that point it has. One of the strengths of the album is that the quartet played with a remarkable relaxation and tranquility.
If Doug Webb knows this is a record that is worth visiting to work , and if you know it, too. In any case, one of those records published in 2010 that should not go unnoticed because it is a great jazz album of all life.
