ELF TRIO - ELFLAND

If you were a fan of the magical sound of the Esbjörn Svensson Trio and do not dislike the work of The Bad Plus garnished with electronic beats and a 'taste' more commercial, no doubt, "Elfland" may be a good record for end in 2010.
"Elfland" is the German trio's third recording for Enja Records Elf. In the continues with the mixing of their previous albums drum'n rhythmic concepts taken from the 'bass, house and dubstep with a fully melodic jazz and contemporary .
trio Elf tries to keep reinventing the format of classical piano trio looking for more contemporary rhythms in the styles prevalent in the dance halls, 'drum' n 'bass,' dubstep 'or' hip-hop 'leave their droplets in the style of this German trio.
His albums "Elf" and "746" have been enthusiastically acclaimed by critics and audiences in Europe and Japan and this third album follows this direction. Continued well aware of the warm and melodic acoustic sound of the instruments but always accompanied by distorting and surprising effects in each subject. For this cd are expecting a great contribution, voice the legendary Milton Nascimento, who knew about this group and offered them to record something for his tour of Brazil at the beginning of 2010. The result is two beautiful versions of "Ponte de Areia" and "Anima" Milton's own original. Brazil also 'sounds' in "Ocean11", with the collaboration of percussionist Marco Lobo and "House of Tom" song dedicated to Antonio Carlos Jobim.
most modern scene appears on this cd on tracks like "The Ave" that reflects the sounds 'hip hoppers', "Hammer Hammer Baby" more 'house' or the pretty version, almost nine minutes, the group performs the hit the band pop-punk of Blink 182 "Down." The sound closer to Bad Plus is reflected in "Sounds in My Garden" with an echo that rubs against the 'grunge'.
This is a trio 'electro-organic' in which each voice enjoy equal rights . Walter Lang's piano extends its lyrical melodies, very expressive and energetic chords on a good rhythm section consisting of drummer and bassist Gerwin Eisenhauer Sven Faller always accompanied by prerecorded loops and bases that give more pace if it is to the compositions.
In short a good record that without the magic of EST and the strength of The Bad Plus can make you spend good moments.
